Summer Break Planning Ideas

Being prepared is the first step to making summer break memorable. Whether you are looking for a big picture bucket list or you like a detailed day-by-day schedule, I have the summer plan for you.

Free Stuff

  1. Start the summer right by having access to your little one’s school friends. Send this printable phone book for kids the last week of school so your kids can collect some phone numbers.
  2. Work together to create a fun summer bucket list ideas… and bucket.
  3. If you like goals and detailed plans you’ll love this printable summer planning pack.
  4. If you prefer a more relaxing learning plan for summer you’ll like this one.
  5. Having a strong (before the kids) morning routine just for you, makes a huge difference in how you feel all day long.
  6. For summers that will include work (or chores), learning and play. This printable work, learn and play chart is awesome!

Summer Break Activities for Kids

Keep the kids entertained (and learning) with summer activities and summer crafts.

Free Stuff

  1. Have some science fun with the Brains On Podcast. You can listen online or use your favorite podcast app to listen.
  2. Get the kids moving and make the most of your local parks by visiting a new park every week of summer. Use these printable park passports to record the adventure.
  3. Take pretend play outside with this homemade backyard explorer kit.
  4. Set up arts and crafts time a couple days a week. You can start with these 16 creative & easy summer crafts for kids.
  5. Pick and prep a different brainteaser every week. What Do We Do All Day makes it really easy with her huge collection of printable brain teasers and puzzles.
  6. Mix up reading time a bit and try out listening to books for a while. Get two free audiobooks when you try Audible free for 30 days. My kids love the 39 Clues Series.

Worth Buying

  1. Let Kids Cook Real Food teach your kids to cook! We took the Advanced Skills Course a few months ago and the I am so glad we did. They learned how to make refried beans from dry beans and now they can cut their own melons! (Of course there was much more… but those were my favorite parts.)
  2. Put the inspiration of bright pictures and easy to follow steps right in your kids’ hands with The 101 Coolest Simple Science Experiments. My favorite part about this book is that each activity includes a mess level and whether or not adult supervision is required! That way I can tell the kids to find a low mess activity they can do on their own while I clean the kitchen.
  3. Adding a little trampoline to our yard at the beginning of last summer was the BEST decision I could have made. We bought the Skywalker Trampolines 8 Ft. which is a bit small for my kids (9 and 10) but worked really well as a starter. We love it so much (the kids for the fun of it, me for the instant energy spending) we’ll be getting a bigger one this summer. Let me know if you have a recommendation.

There you have it… an enormous list perfect for summer break. What would you add? Let us know in the comments.
