The Way I Feel Activities and Reading Party
Scholastic and EVEREADY® are teaming up to help parents shine a light on reading, even in the dark! Today I’ve become part of the team. I’ll be spreading the word and sharing with you some fun ideas for hosting a reading party of your own.
I love the idea of hosting a reading party! Anything that encourages a love of reading and brings books to life is something I want to be a part of. By the way, have you seen our new Family Book Club series? Check it out and join in!
EVEREADY® has made hosting a Pajama Jam Reading Party super easy. They’ve created a printable party toolkit with easy to follow tips and ideas. FUN!
Reading Party Prep
- Ask everyone to come in pajama’s. (Even if it’s the middle of the day because your kids are in bed before it’s dark out. 😉 )
- Encourage guests to bring a favorite book to read.
- Set up one big fort or a few little forts. Add pillows, blankets and lots of books.
- Play soft music in the background.
- Give the kids flashlights to read with. EVEREADY®’s high quality batteries and flashlights are reliable and affordable and can be purchased at Dollar General or Target. (If your party is during the day use dark blankets and try to cover windows to make the house as dark as possible.
- Pick a special book to focus on. We choose The Way I Feel by Janan Cain. It’s a fun book with bright, silly pictures and lends itself easily to fun learning activities.
- Get more ideas from the EVEREADY® party toolkit.
The Way I Feel Activities
- Play feelings charades. Let the kids take turns acting out emotions using only facial expressions and body language. Draw pictures, write words or simply whisper emotions to the actor.
- Set up an art table and let kids draw different emotions. Drawing Emotions from Art for Small Hands is a great example.
- Use edible markers to make fun marshmallow emotion snacks. No Time for Flash Cards did this and made emotional snowmen.
How do you celebrate reading at your home? Have you ever hosted a reading party?
