Mom’s Rally Cry

It’s 3:00 in the afternoon. The house is a mess, the last load of laundry still needs to be folded, the activity you stayed up late last night preparing didn’t go over very well, nap time did not go at all, dinner is still thawing (way too slowly), Hubby’s stuck in traffic. Everyone needs a bath (including you), and there are still 4 long hours until bedtime.

You know what you need? Yeah, yeah, a housekeeper, a chef and a nanny… something tells me they are not coming anytime soon. No, what you need is a good rally cry. You know the rambunctious, screaming, support athletes get when they need to turn a tough game around. The cry that reminds them how strong they are, that they’ve prepared for this, that they are in charge, that they can bring this home.

Since there isn’t a crowd of adoring fans ready to stand and cheer you along, you’ll need to make it happen all by yourself.

For the last few months Alicia Keys has sang my rally cry. Girl on Fire can be heard blasting through the windows several times a day. The video shows her as a caretaker, a mother and ON FIRE! All I have to do is hear the first few seconds and I stand a little taller, move a little faster. My game is up and I can finish strong.

Do you have a rally cry that moves you through the rough patches? Share it in the comments, it might be just what someone else needs to hear!

I love that one too! I was torn between the two for this post… Girl on Fire has been with me for months but Roar might take the lead soon!

Loved this post!!! I have done this many times – had a “theme song” of the week – but I love naming it a rally cry 😀 Also I always liked this song but never saw the video, and now I love it so much more!! Thanks for sharing. Lately my song has been… Let it Go (Frozen). My husband and I have made some funny lyrics to it, kind of a spoof on cleaning the house, and it always gives me some extra energy. xo

Pink “Just like Fire” always pumps me up. Never thought to make it my rally cry for when that quicksand hits though. Definitely going to now!!
