Camp Mom: Mommy and Me Pen Pals

We all know the song.  Even if you never went to sleep away camp, you are familiar with the long standing tradition of letters home from camp.

Even though we aren’t sending Brayden away, when I saw “Mama & Me” journal on Pinterest, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to record our summer memories & keep up on his fledgling reading & writing skills in preparation for 1st grade.

I had grand plans to create something super crafty, maybe scrapbook style.  But almost 3 weeks into summer vacation & it was time to “git er done”.  I had my Cameo out for another project so I whipped out some quick letters & glued them onto a spiral notebook.  You could just as easily use some markers, or let your kiddo create something themselves.

We’re starting this week while Brayden is away at his grandparents.  It will be in his suitcase as a surprise & I’ll encourage him to write about his time there, his favorite summer activities thus far and, for fun, to draw some pictures.

When he gets back we’ll continue a few times a week.  I think it will be a fun way to keep the learning up while documenting our fun summer.  I’ll keep you updated on how it goes.

Check out our other summer goings at Tara’s Kitchen Sink.

Tara is the mother of a funny, charming and extremely handsome 6 year boy.  She is revamping Tara’s Kitchen Sink a bit and getting ready to bring her readers a little bit of everything.  Make sure to follow her when you’re there… you won’t want to miss any of the brilliant things she has to say!

  1. I love this idea – I think journal keeping is great to do even when you are not at camp. We kept them as kids for any holiday and my parents have just done one with my nephew while he spent 2 months in the UK from the USA.

    1. Cerys,
What fun! I love this one too, I was thinking how fun it would be to keep a smaller version for a little “backpack surprise” once the kids are back in school.
