For Gingerbread Man week I checked out every The Gingerbread Man book I could find from the library.  These four are the ones that got to me first and they are all incredible. I love it when it works out that way!

The Gingerbread Manby Karen Schmidt

This traditional gingerbread story is a great way to start off gingerbread week.  The pictures are fun and playful.  The story flows easily, it is a book that you can find in our Christmas collection.

The Gingerbread CowboyBy Janet Squires    Illustrated by Holly Berry

Yee-haw!  This book is an exciting twist on the Gingerbread Man.  Instead of farm animals the Gingerbread Cowboy is chased by desert creatures.  It isn’t a sneaky fox that devours this yummy character, so does he get away?  You’ll have to read it to find out!

The Gingerbread GirlLisa Campbell Ernst

As you can imagine, the little old man and the little old woman, baked again!  This is the tale of the Gingerbread Boy’s sweet little sister.  She follows his path with the same excitement but things don’t turn out quite the same for her.

The Gingerbread PiratesBy Kristin Kladstrup    Illustrated by Matt Tavares

This book is something special.  Instead of a mad chase around town, this cookie simply wants to find his crew.  The story is interesting, and the pictures are captivating.  After reading it I think I might ask Santa for a pirate ship!

This post is a part of the GINGERBREAD lesson plan.

There are some great cultural takes on the story that I have used. Some included The Runaway Tortilla & The Runaway Rice Cake.
