12 best FREE learning apps for kids

I’ve already shared a lot about our goals for the summer. While I want to make sure we have a ton of fun this summer, I also want to make sure we’re moving forward. Long, unstructured days are a great time for us to be lazy and enjoy some family time. But it also gives us time to focus on important learning and work goals.

My sister had a brilliant idea of dividing daily screen time into two categories. Learning time and free time. When I heard that idea I could not wait to start searching out the best learning apps for kids. I am BEYOND excited about what I found. And of course I couldn’t wait to share the list with you.

The best part? Corning® Gorilla®Glass 4 was kind enough to sponsor the effort! I will be honest that I didn’t know anything about Gorilla Glass until they sent me an Acer Iconia Tab 10. Over this past week we’ve been learning just how tough Gorilla Glass can be! (Affiliate link)

Part of being a kid is learning how to be responsible with fragile items. Of course the best way to learn is to have hands on experience. This is tough when it comes to tech stuff, especially the tech that is shared with the entire family. Because Gorilla Glass 4 helps withstand damage from drops, the kids can get hands on practice… and I can relax while they do.

And now?  On to the oh so AWESOME and oh so FREE learning apps…

12 best FREE learning apps for kids

Math Vs Zombie – This one is fun for kids who love a little spooky play. You can choose levels based on which math facts you would like to work on. (Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are all offered.)

Phase 10 Dice – Phase 10 is one of our favorite games. It uses runs and sets to score points. This app allows you to play against someone or alone.

Marble Drop – This app is so beautifully created. It’s made to look like a chalk drawing. I was testing it to see if the kids would like it and I had a hard time forcing myself to stop! The levels are challenging but fun. (This is probably going to end up being my game. 😉 )

NASA Science 101 – Read about and build rockets. Then watch them take off! There’s a Have Fun, Challenge Yourself and Rocket Scientist section.

Classify It! – This app is bright and colorful. You move up levels while learning about different parts of nature. Because there are easy, intermediate and advanced cards, this game is challenging for all levels.

Cosmic Zoom Lite – The free version of this app has videos showing different parts of our universe. By swiping and zooming in and out you can see where everything is.

Geography Learning – Take quizzes and learn about countries, capitals and flags.

Frontier Heroes – Learn about American history as you take on challenges and play games inspired by specific times from the past.

Geography Quiz Game 3D – Race around the world answering questions about different places and cultures.

Coosi Box  – This creative app is both fun and cool. Kids draw pictures that then come to life.

Piano Teacher – Learn how to play songs on the piano. Choose from a huge list of songs.

Word – While looking at four pictures, figure out the word they all have in common. There are letters to choose from and the number of letters in the word are present.
